New Old Entertainment Center

This past weekend was our complete weekend off, that meant Kayo had a rare Sat. and Sun. off and Joe off-call. We were going to Ironwood, but unfortunately Joe wasn't feeling the best on Friday, so we just stayed home.
When Sunday rolled in and brought continuous snow throughout the afternoon, we started to move some old junk around in the house. With our old house we inherited this old library table, which is not that useful in the modern household. Too chunky, yet not enough storage. It was just collecting dust in the basement, too classy to just throw away. Joe decided to give it a little love (wood glue, screws tightened, and wax) to upcycle as a TV stand. No "Before" pictures, but without doubt this is a remarkable improvement. No more milk crates!
On a side note, Joe turned his old toy box, which was once a TV, sideways and added a shelf to hold his record collection and record player on top.
This weekend we were glad to have kept all the antiques/junk around!

Pizza & Mittens

For Valentine's Day we made pizza at home. Actually our lunch at a new German café held us over for the evening, so we decided to have the pizza next day. We don't do pizza that often, but when we do, it's always fun and tasty.
On another note, I just finished my first pair of mittens on my knitting loom. They are very warm and colorful!

Lunar New Year

Even though we didn't have a big party for Chinese New Year, I cooked a bunch of Chinese take-out style dishes for the weekend to eat off of. Egg rolls (not shown on this table), pot stickers (probably our best made from scratch: Joe rolled out the wrappers while I stuffed), sweet 'n sour pork, noodle with shrimp, fried rice. I think that was all. The leftovers were enjoyed on Super Bowl Sunday in the living room.
And today is Fat Tuesday-- I took the day off and Joe trying to get off work earlier, so we can celebrate properly at Lagniappe, New Orleans style.
Happy Lunar New Year and Happy Mardi Gras!

P.S. Snowman

Earlier this week we got some more fresh snow... and our snowman almost lost its bottom buried in snow.

Play Day in Snow

It was a very nice day today with almost no wind. A perfect day to go outside and play. We decided to take a snowshoe hike in the woods, checking out some fresh rabbit tracks.
When we came home, we still had enough energy left. We (Kayo with Joe's help) made a snowman as tall as Kayo. Joe worked on the middle section, which he lifted by himself.
Since we were getting wet, we said "why not we get a little wetter by going up the hill for sledding?" Not our best or fastest sledding, but still plenty of fun. I think we'll sleep really good tonight.

Pancake Breakfast

On this lazy Sunday morning we decided to make pancakes for breakfast. We wanted to try coconut syrup that our friends in Hawaii sent us. Sweet 'n slightly salty coconut flavor was just enough for us to day-dream about our time in Hawaii. It went very good with bacon, too. We then enjoyed our Hawaiian coffee (thanks KK!) to really start the day right. Not much planed for the day except for the movie "The Revenant" this afternoon.

New Year

Happy New Year! I wanted something special for the New Year's Day, so I baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast. A perfect treat to go with our morning cups of coffee. We also made a small batch of Spam musubi to bring to a New Year party. A good way to start the year.
Finally on Sunday we had our new year tradition of sukiyaki. The right step in the new year! We wish everyone a happy and healthy year.
