Happy Birthday, Joe!

It's Joe's birthday and my four year anniversary since my return. As our tradition, I made Japanese dinner. Sushi with ahi tuna and other toppings (cucumber, eggs, carrots). The kinshi-tamago, golden thread eggs as thinly sliced, was much harder than I remember my mom making them. I also made pot stickers with white fish meat of pike, since it is a no-meat Friday during Lent.Trust me, serving the sushi was no easy, nor pretty, task. But everything tasted good!
Happy birthday to you.... Joe made a wish and blew the candle. The tiny cheesecake was very good, too. We somehow managed to keep the half for leftover! I fed Joe enough rice!!

Home-made Tortilla

It's hard to believe that I've only had one post in March and that March is almost over! Even harder to believe is that we've had more spring-like days this month, although we had some frost and a little snowflakes the last couple of days. That's more like what we expect for March up here.
Today I tried making tortilla at home, only because I was out of store-bought ones and I had been given a bag of masa corn flour that I didn't know what to do with. I knew you could make your own tortilla with it, but I've only seen Mexicans skillfully pressing tortilla in their nifty cast iron press on TV. It turns out that it's rather difficult to flatten the crumbly dough without a press. They were tasty though. I know I won't make them for company!
Here's the picture of my imperfect tortilla, served with pork, black beans, guacamole, chili sauce, cheese and tomatoes.

Not Just An Ordinary White Chair

This is my official "contemplation chair" in which I sit and look at my own paintings in progress. I would like a little coffee table beside it. Four new oil paintings I've been working on... they are coming along....
Even in the North, we can smell a little bit of spring, faintly of a trout stream. Joe especially has a case of "fishing fever." Hopefully the ice at the breakwall will clear soon, so we can start casting for salmon.
