Lunar New Year

Even though we didn't have a big party for Chinese New Year, I cooked a bunch of Chinese take-out style dishes for the weekend to eat off of. Egg rolls (not shown on this table), pot stickers (probably our best made from scratch: Joe rolled out the wrappers while I stuffed), sweet 'n sour pork, noodle with shrimp, fried rice. I think that was all. The leftovers were enjoyed on Super Bowl Sunday in the living room.
And today is Fat Tuesday-- I took the day off and Joe trying to get off work earlier, so we can celebrate properly at Lagniappe, New Orleans style.
Happy Lunar New Year and Happy Mardi Gras!

P.S. Snowman

Earlier this week we got some more fresh snow... and our snowman almost lost its bottom buried in snow.

Play Day in Snow

It was a very nice day today with almost no wind. A perfect day to go outside and play. We decided to take a snowshoe hike in the woods, checking out some fresh rabbit tracks.
When we came home, we still had enough energy left. We (Kayo with Joe's help) made a snowman as tall as Kayo. Joe worked on the middle section, which he lifted by himself.
Since we were getting wet, we said "why not we get a little wetter by going up the hill for sledding?" Not our best or fastest sledding, but still plenty of fun. I think we'll sleep really good tonight.

Pancake Breakfast

On this lazy Sunday morning we decided to make pancakes for breakfast. We wanted to try coconut syrup that our friends in Hawaii sent us. Sweet 'n slightly salty coconut flavor was just enough for us to day-dream about our time in Hawaii. It went very good with bacon, too. We then enjoyed our Hawaiian coffee (thanks KK!) to really start the day right. Not much planed for the day except for the movie "The Revenant" this afternoon.

New Year

Happy New Year! I wanted something special for the New Year's Day, so I baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast. A perfect treat to go with our morning cups of coffee. We also made a small batch of Spam musubi to bring to a New Year party. A good way to start the year.
Finally on Sunday we had our new year tradition of sukiyaki. The right step in the new year! We wish everyone a happy and healthy year.

Taco- New Year's Eve

We had a Mexican pork taco dinner on this New Year's Eve. To make the leftover meal a little more special Joe made a batch of margarita to go with. We also made homemade tortillas (mainly because we forgot to buy some). Not much of celebration, but it was perfect after a normal work day for both of us.
I just got the cutest Totoro socks from Sister Anne. They even have little ears! I'm putting on my PJ's and the Totoro socks to relax... not sure if we can make it to the midnight.Happy New Year to all!

Merry Christmas

We managed to decorate our cookies just in time for Christmas Eve. Joe's usual leg lamp cookies along with snowflakes. This year's new addition was the melting snowman cookie cutter that I couldn't resist. Unfortunately it's rather fitting with our current weather outside. But they are so darn cute, aren't they?
Joe had to work till 5 today, so I got everything ready except for him to grill spicy shrimp and steak and to open the bottle of wine for our Christmas Eve dinner at home.
Everything was excellent. And now finally ready for Christmas. We both have worked pretty hard the last couple of months. We plan to enjoy and relax the next three days. Have a very merry Christmas, everyone!
