On this trip my brother did all the leg work to bring my Japanese musical instrument, koto, that my parents bought me when I was about five. I had played and practiced on this very instrument all the way till my departure for the U.S. at age 18. Quite a longtime relationship, especially for a young person. But then, it had been many, many years since I left it behind. It was definitely a wonderful reunion with my own koto.
Last Sunday I attempted to tune the koto and tried my uncertain hand at it. The musical scores that I first practiced at an early age even looked somewhat foreign. I definitely need a lot more practice! The good thing about the koto is that its strings produce wonderful sound even if I'm not playing any particular notes.
The weather really has been pretty nice up here. In the 80s in the mid-day, 60s in the morning and evening, like the way summer should be. Tonight we just enjoyed our fist corn on the cobb from a semi-local farm. The best part was we dined in the backyard. Very comfortably. We can certainly get used to this.
These pictures were from last Sunday when we took our "wild goose chase" fishing misadventure. Many moons ago, probably over 50 years ago, Joe's dad, uncles, and relatives used to follow a railroad glade to a beaver pond for "quick" fishing trips. That's what Joe had been told, but he had never actually been shown. So on his first time "attempt" to fish this said pond he ended up brushing tall summer grass and the 50 years worth of growth for almost an hour and a half in the 80s. We finally got to the water, though it was hardly fishable because of lily pads and still water. Joe just didn't know how far more we needed to go on to get to the part where the cold spring-fed water was.
Of course, I had more fun in this wild fishing adventure. For the thrill of unknown. I must admit it felt a little silly carrying our fishing poles for the whole time.
At least yesterday (Saturday) we went fishing with Joe's cousin on our beloved Apple Creek.
We each caught a couple of tiny trout, except for Al who showed off his skill by catching two nice brook trout and missing another nice one. But none of us lost a lure, and the morning on the stream was absolutely beautiful, and the woods magical. A perfect fishing adventure!

We're currently sitting outside sipping margaritas. It was a beautiful summer day around 85, and now cooling off nicely. Our summer is short, and even fewer days like today. We make sure to enjoy them. Usually with some tasty drinks.
Another thing I love in summer is a few flowers blooming in the yard, mostly wild flowers. A small mason jar of daisies can brighten up our ordinary day. Happy Summer to all!
