Frozen Lake

There are not many first time nature experiences Joe can expect around here anymore. He has been around for a long time... So we had to check out the  frozen Lower Harbor as this has never happened in his lifetime, though not the first time in history.
The condition had to be just right. Sub zero temperatures, calm enough water, and not much snow. A week ago the ice was clear without the blanket of snow.
The experience gave us a unique perspective on the town's iconic ore docks. I couldn't believe how gigantic the structure was!
Then we celebrated the 30 degree weather at our favorite brewery. The outdoor tent was relatively comfortable... of course, I had my jacket, scarf, gloves, and long johns on.

The coldest Valentine's Day

February 14th this year fell on Sunday, though I had to work,  and probably the coldest that I can remember. The daytime high may or may not have reached above zero. Fahrenheit that is. And the temperature proceeded to dip down to minus 18 degrees. But upon my request, Joe met me at the door with a lemon drop martini.
Since it was not optimal grilling weather, Joe cooked special pieces of steak in an iron skillet. Kinda like a classic supper club.
For dessert we savored every bite of these beautiful hand crafted French pastries. Mmmm.... almost made us forget about the cold outside.

Sub Zero Weather....

Since last week it's been bitterly cold, single digits during day, even with bright sunshine, and 10-15 degrees below zero at night. Too cold to even snow. So last weekend we did some walking at antique shops. The highlight was our Super Bowl party for two. Good way to hibernate in a cozy home.

The arctic cold is here to stay. We are enjoying warm asian hot pot meals. One random night Joe opened a special bottle of sake. Why not? For now we look forward to 20 degrees Farenheit....

Almond normal!

After a very short period of being able to eat/drink in at an establishment before Thanksgiving, it has been a long wait.... This week we were able to dine in once again. We were so excited, we even forgot to take a picture of our food. Oops. So here's the "after" pic of our meal at our favorite Cajun restaurant the other night. At least we have pictures of our drinks and appetizer, plus the dessert.
Take out meals are great, but nothing beats the whole experience of being there... especially when our chef treats us to a dessert on the house.
We are in the middle of deep freeze. Sunny outside but 5 degrees. Thank goodness we can walk into a warm shelter of our favorite bars and eateries... to feel almost normal again!
