Good Bye, Trout Season

The trout season is officially coming to an end. A sad time for Joe, though he now looks forward to his deer season. We just lost one of Joe's uncles who had loved coming up north for deer hunting. We drove 8 hours to attend his funeral, which was a heartfelt big family reunion. Next day, Saturday, we went fishing for the last time this season. We didn't catch any big enough fish, but got to see some fall color in the woods. It had since rained (not mentioning the gusty wind) and the color has gotten even brighter. Yes!! It's getting cold up here. The night temperatures can dip down below the freezing point any day now. Joe still has some insulation to put up in the attic!!

Joe on the Roof

Finally we've had a warm couple of weeks, and Joe's been busy up and down the ladders outside our house. We've been painting the sidings to cover weathered spots. Joe was up on the porch roof to seal the seams with sealer and tar yesterday. We NEED to get our house ready for the WINTER!! Mornings and evenings are getting pretty cold, though the midday sun is still plenty warm... look at Joe's sunflowers. Now we know the chipmunks' favorite sunflowers had been the reddish ones. They ate all but this one seed/plant that has survived to bloom. Hope we can harvest the seeds for next year.
Salmons are in for spawning. In the picture below is the 20" salmon that Joe's dad caught last weekend. It was delicious... especially in sushi rolls. Yum.

Kayo's Art Show

Friday evening was my art show opening at Vertin Gallery. Since that's the area where I went to school, I got to see many familiar faces at the event. The show was titled "Explorations on Canvas" to feature my new oil paintings, several of which depicted Joe's fishing spots. Enough people were curious where Joe's secret fishing streams were.

And this flower arrangement from Phil & Judy almost got as many compliments in the evening.

Joe's Pool Table

We were so glad to be home! Better yet, Joe's dad (to be exact Joe's brother Luke's girlfriend's mom) had found a used pool table for $45!! Of course, Joe had to go out and spend $50 on a full set of balls... but not a bad buy. Joe's dream game room, based on his favorite uncle's set-up as he remembers as a little boy, is slowly coming true. We seriously have to clean the junk out of our basement now. This was Monday night around 10, after Joe's dad and brother Mark helped him put the top up and leveled. Most of us SUCK at playing... so lots of practice is needed. Fun!!
