Staycation I

Today would have been the day we landed in Japan to visit my family... yesterday both of our cell phones were going off with flight notifications. There's absolutely nothing we can do about it, so we are trying to travel through food. Tonight we pretended we had a layover in Korea with bibimbap and kimchi.
Even though we can't travel as planned, we are still going to enjoy our time off from work.  Let's see where else we can travel virtually.

Last Weekend

Less than 1 week after the snow storm we were glad to be able to take a nice walk. Saturday was calm enough to enjoy the same lakeshore where we froze ourselves 2 weekends ago. We skipped enough stones.
Sunday was bitter cold and WINDY, with snow flakes mixed in. Cooped inside our house, we remembered Joe had his Playstation Move. Well, it certainly occupied our afternoon. Relearning our Move playing virtual disc golf.
The trout fishing season opening day is this Saturday. Last evening we drove to check out the river. Joe determined it fishable, not sure if crossable. We shall see.

Snowbound Easter Monday

Yep. We sure got snow. At least we knew this was coming. 1 to 2 feet was the forecast before this storm is over by tomorrow morning. All this snow in our driveway is fresh. I'd say 1 1/2 feet.
The snow bank yesterday was half the size and dirty... yes, we still had plenty of snow left prior to this weekend. We'd rather take the snow over tornadoes. Plus Joe got to have a snow day!

Homebound Easter

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday... no matter how unorthodox it might turn out to be. We opted for a lazy day at home since a winter storm was also coming. But we sure ate well, starting with the asparagus quiche and oven baked pancake for brunch. If only we could enjoy a bit of outdoors. We had to settle for a plate of egg-shaped beach rocks I had collected.
For dinner we had Kahlua pork tacos, only slightly missing the traditional ham dinner. Margaritas on a frigid day always help.
Not that we needed a dessert, but I made a loaf of angel food cake for the first time to use up leftover egg whites that surfaced in the freezer. Light, pretty easy. It was a perfect dish to end our Easter at home.

3 Week Quarantine

It's hard to believe my 3 weeks at home are almost over. Unfortunately the virus situation is not anywhere near its end. We've had some balmy spring-like days... and plenty of chilly weather. Like the day we hiked along the lakeshore.
It's been nice to have every weekend off. And to be able to have dinner before 7 every evening.
Since I was home all day painting, a few days ago I experimented with my bread starter to make pizza dough. Such a success, we should make pizza more often.
But most of all I've made big progress on my paintings in the last 3 weeks.  They are not quite finished. I hope to get them done before things get back to normal. Yes, more patience is what I'm going to need.
