Weather Rules

My day off turned out to be very stormy. Since we were expecting this storm from last night, I had given up my usual grocery shopping routine. Schools were closed. Even Joe's work decided on a quit at noon. Super windy with blowing snow. It's an arctic expedition out there. When Joe came home from work, his Subaru stayed on the street. We only walked down our driveway to get to the Subaru to get some gas for the snow blower and to go to a nearby grocery store.
Yeah, even the Subaru would have gotten stuck in the snow drift.
As we drove back from the grocery store, our wonderful nextdoor neighbor was plowing with his personal backhoe (his regular snow removal equipment) and came to plow our driveway next. It was definitely a good thing because when Joe went out to use his snowblower, it decided to lock up and go on strike. As I type, Joe is in the garage trying to fix it.
We hear there is another storm coming right behind this one. We'll see what kind of weather rules for tomorrow.

Tonkatsu Dinner

On this Valentine's Day I cooked Joe's favorite breaded pork cutlet for dinner, with rice, miso soup, and fresh kimchi accompanying.
A tiny rare cheesecake drizzled with fudge sauce was for dessert.
Wishing you all a happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day & Snow Date

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! I have a day off today and am cooking a special Japanese meal with dessert, while getting a batch of kimchi started. In case you are wondering, the Valentine card above is Joe's handmade card. A surprise!
Last Saturday we had a date with Phil & Judy, meeting up in the big snow country to see MTU snow sculptures. For a change the weather was nice, temps in the 20s and the sun shining.
This year's theme was something about super heros in snow. Lots of comic story heros that Joe needed to explain to the rest of us. Still, as always the details and scales impressed us the same. And it's also fun to watch those college kids play in snow and ice.
Below was our favorite. Minion from "Despicable Me" sitting on a copier... we couldn't figure out how he could be a hero.
We were glad even Ginger could join us for the walk... or being carried in blanket. This was far from an arctic expedition like last year, but a pleasant snow date.

Joe's Surprise Dinner

This was my working weekend. No Super Bowl party, either. Our dinner plans on my work days are usually homemade microwave meals. Joe just heats up leftovers and dish up and ready. Yesterday would have been another and the last day of chili for dinner. But Joe surprised me with grilled pork steak. It's been pretty cold, temps hovering around zero, so Joe hadn't done much grilling. He felt the need to grill. Lucky me.
Joe even thought about side dishes: his breakfast style hash for starch AND steamed broccoli. You have no idea how impressed I was that Joe included green veggie! I just added the red tomato for the color.
Needless to say (above pic), the pork was amazing. How I love anything grilled, especially pork! Love pork. Thanks, Joe, for a nice surprise dinner after a day of work.
