Back to Fishing

Before it rained some last week, our trout stream was pretty low. We took a break from fishing, so our fish didn't get stressed more than necessary.
Today the water level was perfect! Joe caught a 16" brown on his first cast, which must have created some competition. Soon I pulled a slightly smaller one. I let it go to pursue a bigger fish, but that's when my reel broke. I swear I didn't do it!
Our fishing trip was cut short, but we got to have our coffee and croissants sooner and happened to catch a small town parade and classic car show. All in all it was a good morning fishing.  And I got a new reel for tomorrow!

End of May!!

It seems that spring and summer arrived almost at the same time this year. Still, we had light frost a couple of mornings last week. We just don't know which season we may have every day! This weekend was quite comfortable, in the upper 60s. I briefly waded in the lake and mostly enjoyed walking barefoot in the warm sand. Yes, the water was cold!
In the woods pink lady's slippers were in bloom. Finding them always makes us feel special.

Fishing on Sunday turned out to be lots of fun. Our normal lures weren't working too well, but Joe threw one of his bass lures, he calls "Mr. Obnoxious," and fish went crazy. They weren't actually biting. They acted mad. Two or three nice fish would try attacking the lure, from different directions. Joe let me use his spare lure, and sure enough I caught a 15" brown trout!

The best part was that this lasted for one and a half hours, at one spot.  Joe's second brown was slightly bigger than mine, though the picture doesn't show well. We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!
