Savoring the Summer

When we can't take a vacation afar, we may drive a half hour north, away from town, to find ourselves at a small but low-key beach. It felt like we found a hidden treasure. Wishing my family could escape from the brutal heat in Japan to this comfortable 75 degrees weather.
We almost feel guilty when we have Japanese BBQ, such a simple method of cooking tasting soooo good. We do this on weekend and even mid week. Not feeling guilty enough. Pure pleasure.
But then, even a Tuesday taco dinner with leftover grilled meat and corn salsa tasted great when we added our first garden tomato. Not yet optimally ripen, but it had some spots. Maybe we'll have more ripe tomatoes this weekend.

It's August!?

Howdy! It's hard to believe August is already here. It had been rather dry (though continuous beautiful sunny summer days), and after some rain the other day we noticed our grapes exploded with more leaves and green grapes! We can't wait to replace Smucker's jelly with our own.
We are really NOT gardeners. But we were gifted with some plant starters earlier this season. Joe stuck them all in pots... and how exciting it was to see the baby tomatoes and peppers.
Also, some perennial plants we bought last year have come back.. like these colorful lilies. It's just nice to have some flowers in life.
And it is summer corn season! We've picked up fresh corn from a corn/veggie truck for 2 weeks now, wishing our friend KK can be here and enjoy our fresh corn salsa with us.
