Stay-cation!

Our little town celebrated its heritage all week long, an extension of the 4th of July. The whole town felt almost unrecognizable with extra cars, people, NOISE. Saturday night we did enjoy the firework display, which we could watch from our front porch. We invited a few good friends to a casual BBQ party leading up to the late night firework finale. Our noisy neighbors didn't finish lighting off fireworks till past midnight, while we managed to finish doing dishes after our party.
We needed a vacation. So we took a one-day vacation within 15 miles from home yesterday. The weather was perfect. 80 degrees, little humidity, with the right amount of breeze. A beach day!
As close as we could get to being in Hawaii.
When we got hungry, we picked up a local sub takeout and headed to our favorite brewery. No cooking while on vacation. We even took a day off from fishing. It was a grand day. Happy Summer to all!

Good Afternoon Fishing

The last day of June (yesterday) we went to Apple Creek in the afternoon. It's been warm (70-80), and the water level has come down. At the first hole we could see a couple of big fish underwater. They showed some interest in my lure for the first few casts, but that was all. So Joe threw a worm and pulled this 15" or so brown. We let him go to grow even bigger. Then we both caught a few small browns.
Later downstream I caught a nice fat 15" brown. I got to see the fish chase around and after my lure before setting a hook. Also it jumped and fought at the end of my line, which was quite exciting. She was very tasty, too, for dinner tonight.
Hope everyone is having a good summer. Happy 4th of July to all!
