At 10pm tonight our kitchen island was completed. It turned out even better than we expected. I can't wait to have breakfast tomorrow morning! We are done with house projects for now.
Today is Joe's birthday, though it's Monday we both took a long weekend including today. We started celebrating sometime last week when I cooked his favorite Japanese dish tonkatsu.
This weekend we took a trip to Green Bay. Joe wanted to go to a car show. There were a bunch of cool cars, including Mader from "Cars", which was my favorite.
Today we woke up at home and rather enjoyed a relaxing day. We took a walk around the Island to view the ice covered lakeshore. Ore boats are starting to run again... a sign of spring, almost spring.
Onto another subject, we are almost done with our kitchen island/table. It's starting to look good. I can't wait. I am not the most patient person.
And happy belated St. Patrick's Day. I had to work all weekend unfortunately, but my crockpot worked hard to cook our corned beef and cabbage. Wished we had some friends to share it with... but then glad to have leftovers.
We also decided after much small improvements in our kitchen to put an kitchen island/ table. We should be able to pick up one of the two base cabinets from the store soon before assembling and painting. So stay tuned....
Ta-daaa! We now have a real floor in the kitchen, instead of just the painted sub-floor which was getting all scuffed up. After the cabinets were painted, our floor looked doubly shabby. It was time for a real thing. Except yesterday morning we were still just thinking about the project. Late morning we looked through different lines of flooring materials at a store, but then walked out with a cart full of WORK. From Noon on we tackled with the flooring till late at night.
Here are a couple of Before pictures. It was definitely worth the money and effort, but our body aches this morning make us wonder if such an impulsive first-time flooring project was a good idea. All we can say is that we are not doing our second flooring project for a long time.
Last night I made sushi rolls with cooked trout and avocado for dinner. Even though it was a Fish Friday during lent, still we felt like celebrating TGIF. When we added a light cheese platter, we knew it called for some sake. I didn't even think about Girl's Day in Japan, March 3rd, a celebrating spring's arrival. We also toasted to our newly painted kitchen cabinets.

I finished my painting project. We are happy with how our kitchen cabinets turned out. The same old cabinets just in new colors. What a difference.
