Joe had a vivid dream of catching a 22" Brookie (that is a HUGE trout). That weekend (now last weekend) he caught over 20 fish of all size and brought home these 3 in the picture. The biggest was a very hefty 15" Brook Trout, after which Joe needed a sip of rum to calm his nerves. Of course, I was at work, but happy to come home to eat the fish!
Really, Joe had to miss 2 weekends of fishing, first with our Milwaukee trip and another from severe storms. All that rain and warm weather made all the grass and ferns grow taller than Joe! And this weekend was another stormy one. In fact, as I type, we are listening and watching the rain, thunder, and lightening, plus occasional fireworks (close enough to the 4th of July).
Since the storm was well predicted, we went fishing in the evening on Wednesday and Thursday. The second day turned out to be decent. Joe caught 10" Brookie and this 12" Brown.
Then at the very end I caught this 14-1/2" Brown. I have to admit Joe gave me instructions where to cast. Oh and Joe pulled another Brown right after at the same spot. Mine was definitely bigger : )
This past weekend we headed south for Milwaukee with a couple of stops along the way to see friends and family. The main business was Kayo's appointment for green card renewal on Tues. Not to waste our 6-hour drive, we spent two nights and explored the city a bit. We took a tour at Miller Brewery, of course.
And we checked out the Art Museum and its awesome architecture. We stayed for the closing of its wings, too.
The highlight was this charming Irish Inn and Pub where we stayed. We picked because it was close to the government building we needed to go. It turned out to be an ideal spot even for all other fun activities in town. We'll go back there again just for fun!
Last Sunday morning there was a brief window between stormy systems moving in from west. We took a quick fishing trip... 'cause you never know. Mosquitoes were biting, thankfully a little slow in the cool weather, and the water looked perfect. Still, fish weren't hitting at first. Then I rolled a good-size fish who got away. I'm still learning how and when to set a hook properly. Luckily I pulled this 10" Brookie from the next hole, though the fish was barely hooked by the lip. Probably the biggest Brook Trout for me.
Of course, Joe had to show off his skill right after by catching an 11" Brookie from the same spot. Oh so easily! We let both of the native fish go. Rainbows, Browns, and Brookies of smaller size were active for a little while until the next weather system rolled in. Then they were all done. It was a fun trip.
